George Basil Warburton Gray b. 18 April 1883 at Kandy, Ceylon. Planter Manager, Siginting Rubber Estate Ltd, Negeri Sembilan and Telegarth Estate then Pelepah Valley Estate, Kota Tinggi, Johore. Married Isabel Ruth 1908. Children Kingsley, Donald, Felice & Nola. Daughter Felice ‘Baba’ married planter Percival Dantry 1935. George was evacuated on the Mata Hari with wife Ruth. He died in captivity 12.2.44 [61] at Muntok of malaria. His grave is shown as D10 on the Graves page. Death noted by Reis in diary and in W. H. McDougall’s diary.
Ruth Isabel Gray (wife of George) also on board the Mata Hari. She survived and was liberated from Belalau Camp near Lubuklinggau in August 1945. She died aged 67 years on 5th February 1950 in the UK.
Marjory (Madge) Gray (nee Bruce) also on board the Mata Hari. She died on 13th Jan 1945 at Muntok. She was the wife of French Eric Arthur Warburton Gray (brother of George) who died as an internee in Changi Jail 1942.
Sisters of George and French Gray were: Nola Elizabeth Hudson (nee Gray) and Felice Alexandra (Babs) Daintry (nee Gray). They were both evacuated from Singapore on SS West Point to Durban, South Africa. Nola is still living in 2015 aged 102 Nola was accompanied on SS West Point by son Michael.
Babs was accompanied on SS West Point by son Blair and daughter Ruth. Husbands: John Hudson interned Changi & Sime Rd; Percival (Pat) Daintry PoW in Changi & Sime Rd, Singapore.
